Girls, do you think girls spend more time wearing polish on their toe nails or finger nails?

Please help me settle a bet with my girlfriend. I believe that women spend more time with polished toe nails rather than finger nails, while she believes it is about even. I base my opinion on my own habits where I wear toe nail polish constantly but only polish my finger nails for special occasions and then quickly remove the polish on the first sign of chipping. If you do wear nail polish please give an estimate of the percentage of time you wear nail polish on your toe nails and finger nails. I for instance wear toe nail polish 100% of the time while finger nail polish would be lucky to be 5% of the time. If you do wear nail polish regurlary what is the time frame between coats. I put on a clear topcoat every second day. My most used shade is actually clear followed by red and then a light pink. What is yours?Girls, do you think girls spend more time wearing polish on their toe nails or finger nails?
Well, for me, I'm really sorry, but I have to disagree with both you and your friend.

Cos since you said that you based your opinion on your own habits, may be your friend based HER opinion on HER own habits? So im MY opinion, I don't really think the bet is fair, whoever wins. Cos it's all about opinions. There isn't a right or wrong answer. Get what I'm driving at?

But anyway, to answer your other questions, whenever I go to the salon to do my nails, or paint my fingernails, I do and paint my toes as well. May be it's because I'm the sort of person who cannot tolerate incompleteness?! lol. So if I paint my toe nails, I HAVE to paint my fingernails too, and vice visa. If not I feel incomplete.

And so, in that case, I wear fingernail polish 99.999% of the time, and toenail polish 99.999% of the time. The other 0.001% for both is when I remove my nail polish, and give a spa treatment to my fingers and toes before applying another color.

Okay, my ';nail'; routine is this. First, I would use a cotton ball soak in nail polish remover and remove any excess nail polish that I have left on my nails. Then I would soak my nails in warm soapy water, usually scented with lavander oil. Then I would dry my nails, push my cuticules back, and file my nails. I put a base coat on my nails, let it dry, and then a thin coat of the color nail polish that I want. (Fingers usually being either pink, french manicure, etc. and toes usually being dark colors like deep red or brown, etc.) Once that dries, I put ANOTHER coat of the nail polish and let it dries. And then, I put a top coat on, and yes, reapply it every two nights.Girls, do you think girls spend more time wearing polish on their toe nails or finger nails?
Toenails :]

toes nail
toes, duh it always last longer there.
yes
Toes - definitely. I rarely paint my fingernails (I always paint them green for St. Patrick's Day). My toe nails are usually painted. I go about 5 days with a coat then switch. My most common color is Cherry Red - sometimes I go light pink, copper, and dark blue.
Well, I've actually never thought about it, but I think you might be on to something. My toenails are polished most of the time, including winter, so perhaps 95% of the time. I just recently started painting my fingernails more often, but normally, I would say my fingernails are painted about 40-50% of the time. I use a lot of burgundy and silver on my nails. However, I just started venturing out into using other colors.
I would most definitely say the toes! For one, in the summertime, everyone wears flip flops and even if they don't paint them a color just get a french pedicure...they are still getting PAINTED! No one hardly ';paints'; their fingernails any more.. they just get them done with a french manicure which requires no PAINTING, just gluing and buffing.... By the way, I NEVER PAINT MY FINGERNAILS, BUT MY TOES...I WILL FREAK OUT IF THEY AREN'T PERFECTLY PAINTED (Burnt Orange with glitter or Apple Red) and a CLEAR COAT on top!
sorry, but most women I know polish their fingernails more than their toenails
my finger nails are bare now and thats usually how it stays. My toe nails on the other hand seem to be always polished. more so during summer because of sandles, flip flops. i would say toes 95% of the time every now and then I'll remove the polish but never seem to keep it that way. like dark reds or tans, browns
I wear nail polish on my toes most of the time but almost never on my hands. I'm always doing something with them so there's no point in polishing them because they'd chip in less than a day.
I say toenails!
I cannot stand polish on my nails...its doesn't stay long enough...it always chips and looks horrible...whether its clear or whatever, it drives me....but my toes are ALWAYS painted, I cannot stand to not have my toes painted, it makes me feel half-dressed...I love using pinkish-purple and red on my toes...IF anything is on my nails its clear(I did try color on my nails and it drove me crazy so no more)...
I get pedicures and I always get them painted as a French pedicure. It looks nice, and it stays looking nicer a lot longer than fingers. My nail tech guy told me not to keep the polish on any longer than three weeks at a time and let your nails go bare at least a week in between polishings to recover and keep from getting a nasty yellow stain. Toes all the way last longer!

I love the bold coppers and fire engine reds though! My favorite favorite color is by OPI and it's called ';I'm not really a waitress!';.
toes
I say finger nails. Unless you are the type of girl that wears flip flops year round. But then again it is usally equal cuz if you paint you nails a cetain color your going to paint your toes to match

  • My finger nails are peeling from the tips? Why? Haven't been doing or using anything different.?

Could be climate changes. Mine do that more in the winter. Nails (and hair) grow faster in the summer because its warm. When it's cold and the wind is blowing and you get all chapped and stuff, your skin and nails and hair dry out and can cause peeling.

Take a multi vitamin, more calcium and back in the day they used to drink gelatin - yuck! I'd rather just eat jell-o thank you!My finger nails are peeling from the tips? Why? Haven't been doing or using anything different.?
My mom had the same problem.

In general, flaking or chipping nails are caused by your body needing more calcium.

If you can, ad a glass of milk or - even better - chocolate milk to your everyday routine. Even chocolate soy milk will help.

Good, old-fashioned nesquick will work the best.

I've been doing it for years now and swear by it - and my mom started about a month ago. For the first time ever she's got long healthy nails now.

Vitamins for healthy finger and toe nails?

Is there an over the counter vitamin that i can take that will improve my nail growth and healthiness?Vitamins for healthy finger and toe nails?
Try Biotin. Its cheap and you can get it at pretty much any store that sells vitamins. You need to take about 5000mcg a day. I do and my nails grow like crazy and are healthy..and my hair has gotten healthier too. Good luck!Vitamins for healthy finger and toe nails?
calcium. get a pill because its hard to get the write amount otherwise. make sure you get one that has calcium, vitamin d, and magnesium. the vitamin d helps absorb the calcium. its best to take at night.
u need lots of protein, eat foods with lots of protein, i dont think u can get protein pills. but u can get protein shakes and crap.
    a regular multivitamin will help.

White blob in the middle of my finger nails? What does that mean?

Lack of calcium in your diet.

They aren't permanent.White blob in the middle of my finger nails? What does that mean?
This is the most common form of Leukonychia, small white spots on the nails. Picking and biting of the nails are a prominent cause in young children and nail biters. In most cases, when white spots appear on a single or a couple of fingers or toes, the most common cause is injury to the base (matrix) of the nail. When this is the case, white spots disappear after around eight months, which is the amount of time necessary for nails to regrow completely.White blob in the middle of my finger nails? What does that mean?
You mean that thing that sorta looks like a dent or something, but you can't actually feel it?

I've got that too... I think.

It doesn't affect your finger or fingernail or anything, but it'll grow along with you fingernail, and *if* you cut your fingernail after a while, it'll be gone :)
Its a small bruise that happened before your nail was grown out to the nail. nothing to worry about; maybe you slammed your fingers in something a few months back, and your finally seeing the aftermath.
    Lack of Calcium...

You need to stop eating junk food and eat more healthy foods for awhile. Well you should all the time haha!
could be vitamin C deficiency, or vitamin D, i always mix them up, so it's one or the other

could mean a fracture to the nail or calcium defieciency
    I think it's dead skin. But I don't know.
It means you dont get enough calcium

Spend more time alone. Or learn to analize your social situations a little. BE aware of your breath, try to find the way to make it last. Meditation or so.
Probably you might have generalised anxiety disorder.it is diffficulkt to make a diagnosis based on your question and your interpretation of social anxiety disorder.

Some of the associated symptoms may include excessive worrying, sweating ,awareness of your heart beat, avoiding situations-like avoiding open spaces with large crowds, fear of the unknown etc.

    Some forms of treatments include

Non drug treatments-Counselling to talk and discusss your fears and anxities,desensitisation-i.e graded exposure to the thing/object/situation that you fear.Desensitisation is used to treat phobias(Fears)

    2) drug treatments/ medication

Benzodiazepines(Diazepam,lorazepam,alp鈥?etc)treatment%26gt;It is meant to be short term 2-4 weks treatment.Use beyond 4 weeks can lead to addicion and dependence to the drug.

3)Antidepressant medications(like citalopram etc) in a low dose are used in the management of anxiety disorders. The doses are below the requirements needed for treating depression.
when i was young i have this problem too :%26gt; my father paint the ammonia on my finger .....then i never do it again
    You are experiencing mild anxiety.

If it`s not possible to stop it ASAP..try substituting nailbiting by deepbreathing or think of a quiet place whenever you are anxious.Or try positive self-talk.

I tried it when I am anxious or afraid. It`s very useful.
You seem to be asking 2 Qs, one about social anx; and about biting skin.

You can stop biting your skin by replacing this activity with another. Carry some Curel, or moisturizer with you. In the a.m., rub the ends of your fingers with lotion. During the day, when you feel like biting, rub instead.

Replenish the lotion in private, on your break, in the washroom.

Over a period of time, the skin on your fingers will heal, and the additional rubbing will smooth it out.

When you see how much improved the appearance of your fingers, this will motivate you to refrain from chewing.

The social anxiety is a deeper rooted issue, but mastering the finger-biting is a step toward greater self-confidence. Lack of confidence/shame-gone-awry is usually at the root of socio-phobic/shame affect disorders.

Maybe this is what is deep down inside? Work with a therapist on this issue; good luck.
Do visualization, write in meetings, chew gum, hard candy. Or see if antidepressants will work (it does for some).
when you figure it out please let me know
Take a anti-depressent that works for anxiety too.
I also suffer from an anxiety disorder, and most of the time when I am feeling very stressed, I tend to scratch or rub the top of my head alot, or just cover it with my hands. I have had the hardest time breaking the habit. It seems like the only way to rid yourself of biting is to confront whatever it is that drives your anxiety. If there is a large group of people that are triggering your anx, then you should try and become the center of attention. I always feel as if somthing is going terribly wrong, in my own head. All I do is confront the fact that I am making myself feel that way, and I try to contradict it by letting myself know I am still breathing and thinking and functioning. I am aware of my problem, and then I can ignore it and get back to life. But, if that fails too often, then maybe getting professional help like therapy or medication would be better. I'm kind of paranoid when it comes to mhmr drugs, so I try to tough it out. Try it on for size, and good luck
My sister did that too. You need to ask your doctor about it, and try to put something on your fingers that taste bad. The have medication for the anxiety you are experiencing. Good luck.
Hypnotherapy; it's non-invasive, no drugs, no side-ellects, it's quick, painless, and can work wonders, by ';re-programming'; your unconscious mind.
the best answer is see a doctor they can help with either counseling or medication
    Cure; your; anxiety.
difficult one. Try to do something else when that happens. As soon as you feel you are going to put your fingers in your mouth , jump up and go do something else. Or you could always put hot sauce on your finger tips.
I do the same thing; eating the skin around the fingernails that is.

I have been doing so for ages now, to the point that some of my finger tips have been slightly ';deformed';; or rather it is the nails themselves who have adopted a new path of growth, making it look like my finger tips are slightly bent.

For years I've been trying to cure myself of this very nasty habit. It can actually lead to gangrene if you dig in too much and the ';wound'; gets infected. Often I would try to put polisporin (or other regenerative compound) on my fingertips before going to sleep, hoping it would heal the skin around the nails overnight. Truth is, it does help a bit but it isn't miraculous.

Stress and fear and the main factors which drive this habit of mine. Stress is everyday life; the lifestyle of the post 80s/90s in today's wireless computer internet age. Fear is basically one of those strong emotions which cannot be easily controlled. Although I literaly face my fear(s) every single day, and deal with them, I just seem to cannot stop eating that skin around my nails!

The only solution I was able to find (thanks to my wife) is actually so simple it will sound ridiculous. It is basically becoming concious of your actions as you are doing then, hence in this case, trying to stop yourself before you do. So every time I put my fingers to my mouth , I try to stop myself. It doesn't always work, but since I am more aware of what I am doing, and of course that other fear of gangrene, I have considerably toned down on this nasty habit.

Let me know if you find a more decent solution to this!

How are finger/toe nails intelligently designed?

From an evolutionary standpoint it makes perfect sense. But from a designer POV it doesn't. Other than picking one's nose, what's the point??How are finger/toe nails intelligently designed?
They're there so the church has something to pull out when people don't comply. How are finger/toe nails intelligently designed?
What?! First, have you ever tried to scratch an itch without nails?! Secondly Humans are way different than apes. Humans have the ability to create consistently and variably, they can appreciate art, they can appreciate music, they have freewill, they are not driven by animal instincts as animals are, humans have a clearer perception of death, humans can create and sustain society, humans have a need to know the unknown....a spiritual need. Apes and humans may have some similarities, but they are simply different creatures, humas are far more superior.

When is the last time you saw an ape construct a bridge, or design a microchip smaller than a......fingernail, when have you ever seen an ape play a perfect rendition of Beethoven's 5th? Exactly. Apes are VERY smart, but they are NOT humans, we are far more advanced, not because of evolution, but because we were simply created that way. Why are apes not STILL evolving? Why are humans not STILL evolving? And exactly what subspecies did we all come from? What are the odds that humans would simply come to the forefront of ALL animals and dominate? The chances of that happening are scientifically improbable. Humans are the ONLY creatures made in God's image, that may not be the scientifically acceptable answer, but it is the truth. Science does not always PROVE the Bible, because Science is not always correct, it is the tool of human beings, and human beings are consistently subject to error and even corruption. Scientist ALSO thought that the Earth was round years ago....but the Bible has ALWAYS said the Earth was a 'circle'. (Isaiah 40:22) The Bible does not need Science to be validated, it has the upmost authority, becasue it is the word of Jehovah God.
so many things make perfect sense when you consider evolution, maybe that's because it is a scientific fact.
Most Intelligent Designer,s beilifers are founded that the

    creator is 1 of us.
it's the vestigial remains of our lizard ancestry.
You can clear ear wax with them also. Plus the nails protect the sensitive toes quite well.

it rock dude,, sometimes people express their selves in everything like in fingers
i don't even bother using black. It looks evil, kinda reminds me of witches....lol, no offence though, it's just terrible.
    no, I don;t like it
I paint my fingernails black for the same reason that someone that likes pink may paint theirs pink.....because i like black.

I am not a ';goth'; by any means but i feel comfortable in black and also occasionally paint my nails red.

So my point is that I paint my nails black because I like black and it matches my clothes.
No because I can't see them at night
No, it makes them look dirty when I take the polish off or as it wears off.
no...they are becoming too common..... and look unclean and well...unnice [is there a word like that????] you should go against the trend and still be fashionable .....have an indivisuality ...

if you're saying that you don't wear shoes when you go out because they're uncomfortable, then get some comfortable shoes! The swelling might be from the fact that you only wear uncomfortable shoes and clean your feet so vigorously. They get dirty because you go out without shoes. My 4 Year Old's Finger Was Crushed- Nail Came off 7 Days Later...?

So the ER doc calls tonight and tells me there is a possibility that it will never grow back. The finger nail area was kindof purple for 3 days. Then the nail turned white and fell off real fast! Has anyone seen anything like this? I am really worried about it never growing back. Thanks. My 4 Year Old's Finger Was Crushed- Nail Came off 7 Days Later...?
Yes, when I was about 8 or 9, I crushed my finger (right middle) between 2 barbells (I was swinging them behind my back and my finger got caught in the middle. My fingernail turned almost every color of the rainbow and then it fell off. It grew back as normal. Don't worry, it should grow back. For now while it's growing, put a bandaid over her finger because it can be a little tender while there is no fingernail over the skin.My 4 Year Old's Finger Was Crushed- Nail Came off 7 Days Later...?
It is possible to have the nail not grow back if the nail bed cells were damaged to the point where they can no longer produce a finger nail, this doesn't happen very often, but is possible.
I'm sure it will be ok, doctors tend to give the worse case scenario
When my son was 2 he dropped the lid to his turtle sand box on his toe, it turned black right away, he was in so much pain that he cried in his sleep even after I gave him baby advil. A few days later he was in the tub screaming cause his toenail came off. It did take awhile but his toenail grew back.

i hear it is from a light state of malnutrition.

any way i can help this?

i take 30 vitammins every day, so i cant be lacking. My finger nails have ridges in them?
Lines and Ridges on the Fingernails

Long lines. As people age, longitudinal lines appear in the nails. They are

considered to be due to age. There are speculations that long, and

corrugated lines on the nails may be due to the bodys poor absorption of

vitamins and minerals, or that these nail lines may signal anemia, an iron

    deficiency.

White lines. White lines across the nail bed are common, but sometimes are

indicative of liver or kidney disease.

Ridges. Any inflammation or irritation around the area of the nail matrix

disturbs the growth pattern of the nail body, and a lengthwise furrow is

produced. Cuticle manipulation, such as cutting too much of the cuticle or

pushing it back too vigorously, can cause fingernail ridging.

Lines. Horizontal ridges that cross the nail like wavy furrows,

indicate that something has interrupted the nail growth, such as high fever,

nutritional deficiencies, drug reactions, painful menstruation, childbirth,

or trauma from surgery. The nail matrix stops producing keratin. When the

nail begins to grow again, a groove marks the spot where the nail-forming

cells rested. My finger nails have ridges in them?

How long would sperm live trapped in finger nails ? ?

wouldn't the minerals and salts in your nails kill it ?

would it live as long ? How long would sperm live trapped in finger nails ? ?
Under ideal conditions (as in, inside the female body looking for an egg) sperm live for about 24 hours. Outside a body, they only survive for a matter of minutes - an hour at the outside.

You are correct that in someplace like your fingernails, sperm life expectancy is pretty short. However, if something happened like you got semen on your hands and then you immediately touched yourself (in the personal regions, if you get my drift), there is a slight possiblity you could be pregnant. How long would sperm live trapped in finger nails ? ?

How can I remove ink from my fingers without affecting my nail polish?

I have washable blue ink all over my fingertips, and am wearing nail polish too. Is there anything I can use to get the ink off but leave my nail polish pretty much intact? E.g. would hairspray affect my nail polish (I've heard it helps to remove inkstains)? How can I remove ink from my fingers without affecting my nail polish?
    Hi Staystra

Try soaking your fingers in cows milk. This will remove ink from your fingers.

Why do Humans have toe and finger nails?

Such as how we evolved to have themWhy do Humans have toe and finger nails?
Finger nails and toenails are evolutionary remnants from the days when our ancestors needed claws for climbing and eating. Did you know that humans also have a residual tail? Also an evolutionary leftover, no longer needed, but still presentWhy do Humans have toe and finger nails?
So it's easier to scratch someones eyes out, and get rid of that nasty little itch.
Nails are to protect the digit end and provide a support when using the digit, it's the same substance as hair which is to protect body areas prone to temperature or rubbing, such as the armpits.
to save the fingers and toes from fraying, same reason we have lips, to stop mouth from fraying
They are a modified claw. Claws can be a hindrance performing some of the tasks primates do, so most of them have developed flat nails instead.
I Think it is to do with our evolution, we lost our tails but still have the point where they should be, finger and toe nails are probably the remnants of claws that other animals and mammals still have!
It would be really hard to walk without toes and really hard to hold things without fingers, well without finger nail u would cut yourself alot and have trould picking up some stuff
It is another way to the body gets rid of waste products.

Weird, slanty nail on middle finger?

The nail is mostly flat but then it goes at an angle in my skin. It doesn't hurt or anything, it just looks weird.

Could this be because I've got a writer's bump on that finger?

    Yeah, it probably is.

Which are dirtier - toe nails or finger nails?

Generally, which would you say is dirtier? Not necessarily more gross.Which are dirtier - toe nails or finger nails?
they are both made up of dead keratonite cells so they are both pretty gross, but we use our hands for more so generally they carry more bacteria. yet some people who don't take care of their feet might be dirtier if they don't clean out from under the nails.Which are dirtier - toe nails or finger nails?
Generally, I'd say fingernails. they don't have much protection, while feet have shoes and socks.

    Nail biting? Finger biting?

Ever since I can remember I'v always been a nail biter. I just always have and can't remember a time when I didn't. I will actually bite down my finger nails to a point where it is so painful if anything touches my fingernails for days it's painful. Recently I started biting, basically tearing skin off, my fingers. Not to the bleeding point but just taking the outher layer off. I don't eat my fingernails or skin I just tear it off and spit it out. Why do I do this? and How do I stop?Nail biting? Finger biting?
    Behaviors can be changed. Be conscious of your moment of biting and tell yourself firmly,';I don't like doing this and I will stop now!'; or some other affirmation that is kind but strong ';I will stop biting my nails now and forever';

There is an underlying anxiety causing this, maybe a fear of abandonment or some other inner torment that you will have to explore through meditation and observation.

I not only chewed my nails til they were bloody, but I used to bite the tips of my fingers hard and indent the top of my nail with my teeth until it really hurt. I was punishing myself (for nothing) when my alcoholic parents or catholic nuns weren't punishing me. I lived in a world of absurd punishments and when it stopped, I continued punishing myself. An odd behavior, but logical.

But I commanded myself out loud to stop and I eventually listened to myself! So I know it works.Nail biting? Finger biting?
well you can put nail polish on and every time you bite it will taste bad, there are also these things called bite gaurds or something like that and u put it on your thumb and every time u bite it will give an aweful taste in your mouth [get this at you local pharmacy store]....yahoo answers not helping? then I would go to a docter soon it, sounds bad...well hope this helps and have a great 2008! 鈾?=]
maybe you got some kind of mineral inbalance or it is just a really bad habit. do you bite when your nervous or boared?

try wearing gloves, bad tasting nail ploish(wouldn't want to chip it either ;) ) get a freind to yell at you if they catch you biting, gross your self out by thinking of all the germs your putting in your mouth, chew gum, keep your hands busy with hobbies or crafts.
i have the same problem. you can put nail polish on, so when you bite your nails, it would taste bad.

i dont know how to stop from biting your skin. i do it, too, and my hands look horrible, especially when they're wet.

keep gum with you, so you already have somthing to chew on. its kind of helping me

it's nerve and stress. try that stuff you out on your nail that taste bad.but i can't use because it dose bother me. ask a doctor or pharmacy person where to get it.
its a nerve thing, you need to relax and not get so anxious, that is what makes you bite them, also i would put something gross on them that when you bite them it taste bad and you stop doing it.
biting nails causes tiny pieces of your nails to stick in your stomach lining causing stomach pollups

Needless to say everyone cleared out and was disgusted. So to make a long story short I guess I'd say do those things at home!

My finger nails keep splitting and are soft?

I have kept cutting them very short so they can recover but they just Split again as they grow any ideas what i can do, thank youMy finger nails keep splitting and are soft?
I have the same problem. The issue could be a result of nutritional deficiencies or it could just be genetics. Im taking a multivitamin which is good for overall health, but it also contains biotin. Biotin is a supplement that is supposed to be really great for skin, hair and nails and it has worked GREAT for me!

After taking the vitamin for a while my nails grew so pretty! Im not joking. You can buy biotin by itself in any vitamin shop. I suggest using the supplement and using a clear nail polish for extra strength; assuming you would prefer your natural nails as oppose to acrylic. My finger nails keep splitting and are soft?
It could be a number of things:- a vitamin defiency ( Vit B + D namely ) or could indicate a problem with your kidneys or liver! Sorry, i didn't mean to frighten you and i'm not, for one minute, suggesting you have a major problem with your internal organs but even a slight infection in our inner organs will tell in our nails, hair, eyes and skin! Book an appointment with your doctor and explain whats been happening and ask for a blood test - it'll rule out inner organ problems plus he / she will be able to give you the vitamins you're lacking in higher strengths than you can get over the counter. Best of luck.
try %26amp; keep them out of water or wear gloves

don't use nail polish remover or wear alot of colored nail polish

Never cut your nails, only file them

%26amp; when you do, go One way going back %26amp; forth will cause them to split.
Broccoli and cauliflower. Both are high in silicon to make strong nails. Also the red kidney beans in chilli. Have the cauli as cauliflower cheese.

i have really long nails and everyone always asks me how i grow them out and i just say don't bite them and that's pretty much it.

but if yours split then you have to strengthen it with some polish that has vitamins or something :)
Buy some nail strengthening cream and put it on the bottom part of your nails everyday to that they grow strong. You can also buy clear nail varnish that strengthens your nails and make them look nice and healthy. Make sure you have lots of calcium in your diet too
Try to be careful when washing the dishes (wear gloves etc.) also you can try black nail polish, many people say it strengthens the nails and helps them grow.

eat more stuff with calcium in it: cheese milk yogurt enriched breads etc

What is the signs or symptoms of being an enimic my finger nails is always purple been told that is sign of it?

Your finger nails being purple or blue is POTENTIALLY a sign of anemia, but more likely is just your hands being cold.

Blue or purple coloration is known a cyanosis which is caused by a lack of bound oxygen in the blood.

Look, rather, at your lips for cyanosis. But most importantly you would be feeling rather awful all the time if you were so anemic that your nail beds were always blue.

If it concerns you a lot, you can get an answer with a simple blood test. What is the signs or symptoms of being an enimic my finger nails is always purple been told that is sign of it?
Easily fatigued or tired, pale skin, dehydration or periods of light headness at times.

I would say that if your finger nails are purple I would be concerned that you have a circulation issue as far as blood getting to your hands or fingers properly wich could be a sign of a clot or even diabetes. Anemia is an iron deficency.

Either way if your conced I would make an appointment with your doctor he or she will run some blood work to check for any deficencies or infections. What is the signs or symptoms of being an enimic my finger nails is always purple been told that is sign of it?
    Being tired, easily fatigued.

i just do them free hand...the opposite hand is a little hard but if you do it slow it should work

just do it on the part of your nails that are grown out and then add a clear coat and it is done
go to rite aid and buy something like ';a manicure set'; or something. they give you a special manicure pen and nail polish... and instructions!! its only like $7
    Try Sally Hanson
use tape to control how much of your nail you want to be white.
i just do it free hand, like the others mentioned. and then you can use a q-tip dipped in fingernail polish remover to make the white lines straighter.(.its a little hard to explain..) then after it dries you can use clear fingernail polish over it. good luck! hope i helped.
i use nail tip guid stickers to do the white part first. then i go over with a light pink and then a clear top coat

vitamin E, either in suppliments or topical.

Also, there are vitamins you can buy OTC that are specifically for nail and hair growth. What can I take to strenghten my finger nails?
u need to take Calcium in aNY form available. It is in lemon, oranges etc in natural form. Lacking in calcium means weakness in bones, nails etc.

Make sure ur diet is proper no junk foods. Most of the junk or fast foods spoils the health in many ways. The timing of ur eating should alos be proper like an alarm clock

    Breakfast - 8 AM

Lunch - 1 PM etc according to your clock.
Drink lots of milk and take a vitamin. They actually have Hair, Nails, and Skin multivitamins now. I believe they are made by One Source.
Sally Hansen has a variety of products. Personally, I like to use their Nailgrowth Miracle.
Prenatal vitamins! My doctor started me on prenatal vitamins recently and I've had to cut my fingernails within 2 weeks! I've never had nails, they've always been soo thin they'd break before getting longer but now they're getting thicker and growing fast. My hair is also growing fast and looking better. My mom always would swear by vitamin E capsules. She'd break them on to her nails and rub it in good but that never worked much for me.

Do you have white spots in your finger nails? What does this indicate?

Good things' are coming your way? Well...maybe. A General Physician can help you with this. The other answer is right. It's a fungus caused by your nails not getting dry underneath. A GP will prescribe an anti-fungicidal cream that work great!Do you have white spots in your finger nails? What does this indicate?
White spots on fingernails and underneath fingernails

are a form of fungus. OTC Creams do not work

on this particular fungi. You may have to see a doctor

and ask him for Lamisil, a prescription drug used

for this purpose.Do you have white spots in your finger nails? What does this indicate?
I remember reading something about the white spots and I think it had to do with a deficiency of potassium.
I think it's when your finger has been injuried in some way.
i have these too and so do pretty much everybody know, i dont know what it means though
My mother told me that it means many blessings, coming towards your way.
I've heard that it's because we don't drink enough water.

What are the chemical compounds of finger and toe nails? I believe they either have calcuim or keratin?

I am doing a science project for anaylitical chemistry. The project is obtaining finger and toe nails from diffrent age brakets. Infant to 80 years of age. I am not sure if i can extract either calcium or keratin. It would really help to know what nails are mainly consisted of. Thank you

FrankWhat are the chemical compounds of finger and toe nails? I believe they either have calcuim or keratin?
Nails are primarily keratin, a protein. In fact the same protein found in hair and earwax amongst other things.

You can extract calcium from hair, just as you can extract copper, arsenic and other metals. But they only exist in trace amounts and you'd need a mass spec. or GC to detect them.

Of course if you have access to a GC or mass spec then analysis of hair for metals would be pretty cool. Because of the way that hair grows you can even work out when people were 'poisoned' by analysing the hair in different lengths. What are the chemical compounds of finger and toe nails? I believe they either have calcuim or keratin?
Nails, in humans, flattened, horny, protective coverings on the upper surface of the outer segments of the fingers and toes. The nails are made of dead cells containing the fibrous protein keratin. Each nail consists of a root, the part concealed within a fold of the skin; a body, the exposed part attached to the surface of the skin; and a free anterior extremity, the edge. The skin below the root and body of the nail is termed the matrix. The matrix is thick and covered with highly vascular papillae, and its colour is seen through the transparent horny tissue. Near the root the papillae are smaller and less vascular; thus, the portion of nail corresponding to this part is whiter. From its crescent form this portion is termed the lunula. The nail advances forward by the successive growth of new cells at the root and under the body of the nail. Homologous structures in animals include the hooves of horses and the claws of birds

Nails grow at an average rate of 0.1 mm/day (1 cm every 100 days). That means that in7 days, your nails will grow about 0.02 inches, which probably means that your nails won't be a decent length by the 22nd.How fast do finger nails grow?
dont bit your nails and other peoples nails grow at different rates. sool
They actually grow 3 inches a year for everbody.
if u stop biting them they might grow a little - but not very

  • Why does ur finger nails keep going a week after you die? Is that true?

It does not keep growing. It is an illusion. After death, the skin and muscle starts to shrink and gives the illusion that the fingernails are growing. Why does ur finger nails keep going a week after you die? Is that true?
No they do not grow what is Happening is your skin starts to shrink because of dehydration. SO it seems like your nails are growing...Why does ur finger nails keep going a week after you die? Is that true?
Your finger nails and hair don't actually grow as much as we think. They grow a miniscuel amount.. but what really happens is the skin shrinks and is more fitting on the bone structure, which is why people who are deceased look thinner. Because the skin tightens, the hair thats in the scalp is pushed out because the skin gets closer to the skull. On the finger and toe nails, the skin on the fingers shrinks too so it makes it look longer.

It's an illusion. Most people think it ';keeps growing'; a noticable amount, but it's really only the skin tightening.
    And your nose does too.
No, it's not true. What does happen, is that in the decay process the flesh contracts from the tips of the fingers, giving the illusion that the nails are longer.
Yes because the cells where formed and ding when the person dies and are just waiting to come out.
They dont keep growing, your skin shrinks and pulls back making it appear like they do
my family is is the mortuary buss. the hair OR nail Do not grow after you die the skin shrivels there for if give the appearance that they grew. :)
yes its true...ur hair keeps growing 2!
actually they do not grow, it just looks that way. What happens is the body and the skin looses moisture because the person is dead and not providing it. (kind of a given) and the skin shrivels up and shrinks. (think cotton in cold water then in a hot dryer) and falls back. This gives the apperance that hair and fingernails grow.
yes your nail and hair both keep growing after your dead. The embalming fluid help to preserve the body, dont know if that could have anything to do with it or not. I did hear that embalming fluid does make your nails grow, but it also dangerous?
it is true but i don't know why it happens though

Why does my little brother bite his finger/toe nails?

does he bite them to the point of bleeding?

It could just be a habit. He could bite them out of anxiety or boredom.

I actually started biting mine as an adult b/c of nail weakness that occurred malnutrition due to undiagnosed celiac disease. My nails were weak so they tore easily, so I would groom them by picking and biting on them. Once I went gluten free my nails got stronger, my nutrition got better, and I stopped. When I feel the urge to bite them I check my diet for any gluten sneaking in, then take a calcium and a multivitamin supplement.

Painful finger where i ripped the nail?

I recently ripped the corner of my nail into the edge of the skin on my index finger. It was only minor but was sore. But days later it is still very painful, it doesnt appear to look infected but it looks like its trying to scab up to heal, but whats worrying me is i have shooting pains in my finger. Im aware that its trying to heal but i dont want to give myself blood poisoning or anything. Its only a minor cut so the shooting pains and stiffness are making me wonder. Is it anything to be concerned about. ThanksPainful finger where i ripped the nail?
Trust me you will be fine. Sometimes pressure around the area (a bandaid) can make it feel better. I wouldn't involve myself in any throwing or catching activities unless you want to tear the whole theng off.

It will be fine just dont pick at it dammit! :)Painful finger where i ripped the nail?
It sounds like you ripped a hang nail too far. Just give it time, I promise you'll be okay, it's nothing to worry about unless you're a hemophiliac and your blood does not clot.
Try painting on some of that liquid bandage stuff to protect the quick from trauma while the nail regrows.
I suggest you consult a Doctor so that you can have peace of mind.
put a plaster on it :) and rest it

  • I have really short finger nails, is there any way for me to stop bitting them ( and make them grow also)?

I've had a problem with bitting my nails since ever since I can remember. It really looks disgusting and I want to stop, but HOW!!!I have really short finger nails, is there any way for me to stop bitting them ( and make them grow also)?
Biting your fingernails increases your risk of illness due to fecal escherichera coli bacteria. So munch all you want, your body will make more, if you eat jell-o.I have really short finger nails, is there any way for me to stop bitting them ( and make them grow also)?
i have the same problem...well i used to just have a friend or family member thats always around you watch and make sure you dont bite them and try to keep your hands working doing something cause as long as your using your hands you cant bite your nails right. and if you just take your vitamins your nails will begin to grow. TRUST ME!! :-)
At drugstores they have this stuff in a bottle that makes them taste like garlic, and it taste horrible every time you go to bite them. It supposedly makes them harder too.
OK...first go to Wal-Mart and go to the cosmetics isle...and look for clear nail polish that heals your nails...then soak your fingers in vinigar or nail polish remover and everytime you put your hands in your mouth you will get this nasty taste and you will eventually quit lol
get a manicure every week. You will be too ashamed to show the girl doing your nails that you bite them, and you will let tehm grow. besides they will look so nice, you won't want to ruin them! Good Luck!!!
Cover you nails in nail polish remover, that way, when u try to bite them, u will taste that disgusting crap and u wont do it, and i also use clear nail polish, it helps mine grow out
    short fingernails are VERY CUTE!!!

(and polish limpid or pink nails polish is very good on short

    fingernails)

buy no really short really short will make you to bitting them

first, keeping them long and cut them short(no really short)

(only cut all white fingernails After thet your finger should is only

have pink fingernails but will have some white on top)

so you will not bitting them
Well to get the nails to grow try stop biting them but evidently you have and its hard. I know I was in your shoes once. A friend of mine told me to dab some gasoline in a rag and wipe it on your fingernails. This may sound gross but every time you put your hand near your face you will either smell gasoline and stop the biting or if the gas bypasses your nose and heads straight for the mouth then a slight taste of gas will be enough to rid you of your habit. It worked for me and I haven't bit my fingernails once that i remember that is in 10 years and my fingernails are really healthy looking now. You will be able to stop the gas in a few months even if you have a really bad habit

Are over weight girls more likely to have long and decorated finger nails, to make up for their shortcomings?

I;ve notice that bigger girls have longer nails to make them feel prettier, but then again thinner girls have their nails done as well.. i guess people just notice it more on big girls because thats something that they find attracting on themAre over weight girls more likely to have long and decorated finger nails, to make up for their shortcomings?
Honestly, I don't see the correlation, nor do i think there is one.

Where is this question coming from? Are you talking about a specific person?

In my opinion, this is more of a race trend. Honestly, I don't see as many white girls walking around with overly long, decorates fingernails as I do when people have a bit of color in them: whatever color that may be.

If I'd have to explain the connection, maybe it's just a ';look'; for them. Like, they're just ';big beautiful women'; with lots of fingernails to paint ornate things on. haha.

Personally, I don't think its to make up for their shortcomings. :)Are over weight girls more likely to have long and decorated finger nails, to make up for their shortcomings?
Here in the South (U.S.), it's typically a race thing. And it's normally the skinny ones who have nails so long as to be useless. Overly long hair, yes. Nails, not so much.

I find the idea of being fat to be a shortcoming just a little insulting, BTW. And I try to be open minded. I know not everyone is into the fat chick thing, but get your head out of your behind. No one is claiming fat men have a shortcoming.

How can i get nail polish off my fingers without ruining my nails?

i always buy those cotton buds that are for beauty. one end is a flat round one for eye make up, the other end is a thin point. if you dip this end into nail varnish remover and gently rub it around the skin you can clean it without disturbing the nails. if you have a steady hand a normal cotton bud will also do it!How can i get nail polish off my fingers without ruining my nails?
I know what you mean. Some people have dry nails. In the sense, when you use the nail polish remover it tends to make the nails look unhealthy. This is because the remover tends to take out also the naturally secreted sebum oil of the nails. I recommend these strategies to pamper ur claws to an awesome feeling:

    1. Use a Q-Tip or a small cotton swab

    2. Dilute your nail polish remover with water in 3:1 ratio

    3. remove the polish quickly taking care that the remover doesnt stay so long in the nail

    4. Quickly dab some moisturizer and wipe them on your nails

    5. Use 1-2 drops of baby oil on the nails and message them

    6. Leave the nails to breathe naturally overnight

    7. Apply new nail polish next dayHow can i get nail polish off my fingers without ruining my nails?
I try to paint my nails before I shower.

Make sure the nails are completely dry.

The water softens up the nail polish around the nails and it's much easier to peel off.

If there is still nail polish then with a q-tip very carefully I just go around the nail with just a tiny bit of nail polish on the cotton.
Dip a Q-tip (cotton bud) into some nail polish remover and then carefully go around the edge of your nail.
What I do is get a wet washcloth and rub the part of your skin where the nail polish is. It always works for me. Good Luck!
Use a conditioning, acetone free nail varnish remover and wash your hands immediately afterwards.
u buy nail varnish remover. These are available in many shops such as boots, superdrug, etc
just use the nail polish remover(amyl acetate) on a cotton bud. Wash it afterwards. It will not hurt you.
put nail polish remover on a cotton bud (the cotton stick things) and take it off your fingers. thats what i do :)
A cue tip with nail polish remover works perfect!
    confused????
